On Thursday 13 February, we held our quarterly DHIP Members’ Meeting at the Pakistan Community Centre. Thank you to everyone who contributed to and attended this meeting!
Our DHIP Co-Chairs Siobhan Horlsey and Amjad Ashraf presented with support from Marie Cowie from Public Health.
Marie first shared how DHIP has been working hard to find suitable cultural competence training for members of DHIP and the wider community. Diversiti UK has provided training for the DHIP Steering Group and positive feedback was received. Support from the Integrated Care Board has meant we can expand the training plan and Diversiti UK will provide additional in-person training days, train the trainer programmes, leadership training and consultancy support over the next 12 months to help develop and promote Derby's local cultural competence offer. DHIP aims to support existing providers to be part of the local offer, with additional training wrapped around this.
The next steps are to form a working group to plan and guide the next actions, this will include Community Connectors and Diversiti UK. The working group introductory meeting is taking place on 24 February 2pm-3:30pm with Helen Gould from Diversiti UK.
Siobhan and Amjad then gave an update on the Vaccination Grants, the first training session was on 13 February, and the feedback from this session was very positive.
After a short break, it was also great to hear from Janet Tristam, one of our brilliant Community Connectors from St James Centre. Janet gave a presentation about the Learning Disability Register. The Learning Disability Register is for anyone with a learning disability, who is also registered with a local GP practice.
The learning disability grants access to:
an Annual Health Check from the age of 14 and older
a Health Action Plan
NHS Flu vaccine
NHS COVID-19 vaccine
The register informs the health staff at the (Doctor) GP practice that a person has a learning disability and may need reasonable adjustments.
